I have hunted now on four continents and I can honestly say Jim is the best PH I have seen. Other outfitters I have hunted with hire PH's to go with us, Jim on the other hand is the owner and your PH, he started the business and no one knows more about the game and area he hunts. Jim not only takes you hunting but also educates the hunter on the area and the wild games habits, strengths and weaknesses, knowledge that can only come with years of experience. I personally have enjoyed hunting with Jim more than any other PH, an accolade I don't think will be beat. A trip with Havago Australia is not just a hunting trip, it is also a informative and enjoyable tour of Australia, the Diekmanns are proud of their country and the knowledge and information they provide while there makes the trip a step above others. I hunted with Jim Dieckmann of Havago Australia in September, 2008, for Water Buffalo. It was one of the best hunts of my life. Jim is an extremely knowledgeable PH. I was amazed at how well he knew the animals, their habits and their habitats, the terrain and the plant and bird life. Jim is also very patient and always made sure that he was setting a good pace for me. I was able to take an excellent Water Buffalo at 30 yards with Jim’s expert guiding. I could not have done it without him.
As a businessman, Jim is very up front and honest with his clients. He told me what to except and delivered exactly what he had promised when I booked the hunt. That means as much to me as the actual hunt.
I am highly recommending that Jim be awarded Professional Hunter of the Year for 2010. I cannot think of another PH who deserves it more than him.

Six annimals on a 4 day hunt is not too shabbby . My guide was great and really seemed to know his stuff, showed me many things other than just the hunt which makes for a great expierience.

Jim I want to thank you for all your efforts during my hunting with you last year (August 2008). I had a great time and really enjoyed myself. You always had a story about areas we traveled through and kept things interesting. I was impressed with your ability to spot animals where i could see almost northing until you pointed it out to me. Your warm personality and friendliness should be appreciated by anyone privileged to hunt with you. Your knowlege of the game we hunted was excellent in my mind and would be happy to hunt with you again any time or place. I am sure the buffalo will be a topic of conversation in my living room on many a cold eving here in Canada when the temperature dips to -40 C. RE: Jim Dieckmann’s Nomination
Jim Dieckmann has been nominated for SCI Outfitter of the Year for the last two years. Both times my husband, Richard, wrote a recommendation for this outstanding gentleman, hunter and outfitter. Since my husband’s glowing recommendations have been to the Awards Committee twice, I decided this was the year to give a woman’s point of view. I have hunted with many outfitters in Africa, Europe, New Zealand, Canada, South America as well as the USA. I have also been on several women’s hunts with my Sables sisters. I can honestly say that Jim Dieckmann is an outstanding outfitter and guide and a knowledgeable professional hunter of the highest quality.
I hunted with Jim’s Havago Safaris both in a province outside of Brisbane and in the Northwest Territory in the Outback south of Darwin. The experience was rewarding and memorable. Jim is a guide who truly rejoices in a client’s successful hunt. I hunted Fallow deer and Rusa deer near Brisbane and wild boar in the Northwest Territory. I never felt that Jim was a man who thought a hunt should be “dumbed down” for a woman hunter. This is a very important fact, as many (not all) outfitters feel they must be patronizing to a woman hunter.
The accommodations and the delightful conversations made evenings at the camp fun and informative. I leaned a lot about Australia’s customs, history and hunting facts because Jim is such a knowledgeable person. His experiences as he has lived his life hunting in the Outback are shared in a gracious way with the hunters.
I have recommended Havago Safaris to many friends who have also had very good experiences with Jim. Jim’s hunts are interesting and he always works very hard for his clients with a contagious good humor and a quiet helpful manner.

I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to hunt with Mr. Jim Dieckmann of Havago-Australia. Jim is certainly the consummate professional hunter. His skill afield is immediately evident. It is enjoyable to participate in a hunt with him as a guide.
The hunting aspect is only a small piece of the overall experience of an outing with Jim. Jim’s knowledge of the flora and fauna of Australia, made outings very enjoyable.
