Deer Hunting.
Location: Most
of these
hunts are on our 12000 acre sheep station in SE Queensland a comfortable 3
hour drive inland west from Brisbane. We offer some hunts just north of us in
the Brisbane Valley as well. We do also hog and sambar deer hunts in
Victoria from February to September.
Other optional activities on
hunt We
offer first class fresh water fishing for Silver and Golden perch as well as our
native Catfish. These you can catch by using either flies , lures or live bait.
You can hunt for rabbits, ducks, pigs whilst on hunt or add on a trophy goat. Our wilderness areas are abundant
with native wildlife and birds. Tours of local attractions is always
offered to non-hunters these include markets, wineries antiques
How we hunt: We
use 4wd's to reach to certain hunting areas and then the hunting is on
foot. Terrain is stony, with eucalypt and cypress pine forests, there is a
lots of brush for cover. It is a dry stony terrain.
What is available to hunt: We
have 7 species of deer% are located in Queensland and 2 in Victoria . In
Queensland we have Fallow, Red , Chittal, Rusa [Javan and Molluccan] and feral goats that roam the area. We also offer
feral/vermin game hunts. We can also organize Sambar and Hog deer
hunts Turkey hunts are also available at the Queensland location.
Fees for deer hunts
These are calculated on a daily
rate per hunter and then a trophy fee added when a deer is successfully taken. Things
influencing the price are the days needed are the
time of year, number of hunters in group and species of deer and number
desired]....a normal hunt averages about 4 days in length if only taking
one species

| Fallow Deer
These are available in a range of colors black,
white, menial and brown. They weight from 170-200lbs, their antlers are
palmated with fine points being called spilliers. They rut from April and hunting
is from February to August. |

| Chittal [axis ]
These deer are strikingly marked and very
graceful. its tail is longer than most deer species .Best hunting is from
Febuary to August. Chittal have slender 6pt antlers with beam measurements seldom exceeding 4 inches. they. Stand
34" high at the shoulder and weigh 200 lbs. considered one of the
prettiest Australian deer. |

| Red Deer
These magnificent animals are 45 inches at the
shoulder and about 300 lbs in weight. they are rich in colour with a buff
patch around their rear. Their rut is from March to April. A good
representative trophy will have well
developed antlers of 6 pts and better. |

| Molluccan Rusa
Rusa deer are native to SE Asia.
They are semi nocturnal
and have coarse antlers with 6 tines [ 3 on either side]. The
molluccan species is smaller and rarer of the two Rusa species . Antler lengths of
16" being considered long for a Molluccan.

| Javan Rusa
The Javan is equivalent in
body size to a red stag.
The rut for the Javans and the Molluccans is from June to August and premium hunting time
is from June to November. they also have 3 tines on each antler which has
a rough and nobbly texture. Rusa love water and will wallow on the
slightest opportunity and dig up grass with their antlers and wear it as a
head dress when rutting.
Hog Deer
Scientific name: Axis porcinus
Description
The Hog Deer are low, heavily built animals measuring approximately 70cm
at shoulder height.
Their legs and face comparatively short.
They are brown with yellowish or reddish tinge and sometimes have a
speckled appearance as some hairs have white tips.
Young calves are sometimes spotted.
Males have antlers about 40cm in length.
They make a whistling sound when alarmed and give a warning bark.
They have a habit of rushing through grass with their head down like a
pig, rather than bounding.
Habitat
They inhabit lowland grassy plains and swampy areas, and don't ascend into
the hills.
Group structure
They are not found in herds but are solitary animals.
It is rare to see more than 3 or 4 individuals together.
